No fue hasta el 1984 cuando se adaptó el guión para cine.
Una película de fantasía y aventuras dirigida por Wolfgang Petersen.
Posteriormente se hicieron dos secuelas más llegando a convertirse en Trilogía, pero sin ningún éxito, ya que solo se pretendió vender la popularidad obtenida con la primera, como en tantas otras solo películas comerciales.
Bastian tenía que salvar a "La Emperatirz Infantil" para evitar que "La nada" destruyera Fantasía. El guerrero Atréyu, Fújur, recuerdos de una infancia.
